When a second body turns up, also the victim of an apparent drowning, Hen Mallin and her team are handed the task of discovering if the deaths are accidental or if there’s a killer on the loose whose preferred method of dispatch is water. Lovesey is on the top of his game here and fans of the traditional British mystery won’t be disappointed. All the clues are laid bare, but things in Lovesey’s novels are rarely what they seem, especially when he sets his sights on placing the seemingly innocent in a tangled web of deceit.
